The Newest Toomey

Dylan and I went to Bend for Thanksgiving to spend the holiday with Dylan’s family. As previously discussed, we had been talking about getting a puppy, and Dylan was really uninterested in making a 10 hour trip to Ritzville and back to get a puppy. So last Friday we went to the Central Oregon Humane Society “just to look”. If anyone has ever been to  a shelter “just to look” than you know that it is not possible. While we were there we found Pumpkin and Cranberry, two 8-week old lab/huskie mix puppies. After playing with the first, Cranberry, we swapped her out for her sister Pumpkin who we found to be much better socialized and willing to play. And of course, we took her home with us. We have since changed her name to Tele, short for Telecaster, as Dylan had never named a pet before. For all the non-guitar freaks out there, it ends up being “Telly”.

Tele & Dylan

We have had Tele for nearly a week now and she is a very smart dog that will someday be very well behaved. We nearly have housetraining down (thank god) and will continue to work on our crate training, come, sit, etc. All commands a good dog should know. This pup has been a lot of work and makes me never want to have children (or at least reinforce the thought that they should wait for a LONG time) but ultimately she is adorable. The poor cat has not forgiven us yet for bringing another animal into the house, but he’ll get over it.

Newfie Puppies!

It appears that Dylan and I have finally decided that we are crazy enough to get a puppy. We are waiting to hear back from a shelter in Washington about some Lab/Newfoundland puppies, we are being judged on our potential as puppy parents. After some research I have decided that this may be one of the best dogs for us based on some shared characteristics of the breeds:

Newfoundlands

  • Noble, Calm, Loyal & trustworthy with a sweet temperment
  • Enjoys the outdoors
  • The Gentle Giant

Labs

  • Loving, Loveable & Patient
  • Highly intelligent, easy to train, eager to please
  • Lover not a fighter

Now who wouldn’t want a big snuggly dog with all those characteristics? If that is not enough to convince you, check out this video. (It’s long – even I didn’t watch the whole thing, you don’t need to)

Starsky will have so much fun with a new puppy friend!

Married Life

Today is our one-month aniversary of being married, and so far it has been wonderful. Of course there are stressors in our life, like Dylan working out of town 4 days a week, a lack of heat in our house and no stove/oven but besides that I couldn’t be happier! However, despite being college educated, married, owning a home and gainfully employed, I’ve decided that I am still not above a can of Chef Boyardee Ravioli for dinner. I was going to go spend an ungodly amount of money on groceries at one of my favorite local organic (read: expensive) stores, but remembered a can of crappy food hidden in the back of the cabinet, and it just seemed easier. Now to my defense, I did not purchase said can of food, my broke brother-in-law was living off that kind of food and left it here.

Alright, this was probably the most uninformative blog post ever, but I thought I would share, and I wanted to post a picture of me eating Chef Boyardee. And that is Starsky (the black blob in the corner) also wanting to eat some tasty ravioli!

Welcome Back

So, I had to put the blog on hiatus for the past due to wedding crunch time. But I’m back, and I’m actually Kim Toomey now. And I have more free time than I know what to do with so maybe I’ll actually do something with my blog. But not right now. Just wanted to let the world know (ok, my dad, Dylan and Arianna who are the only two three people who ever look at this, and have probably given up on it) that I will be back.

The wedding and honeymoon were fantastic! But with the new hubby working away from home 4 nights a week, I am sad and lonely. I will share my favorite honeymoon picture though with everyone! Enjoy and thank you for all the love and support.

Olympic Fever

So, while most people are busy watching Michael Phelps break all sorts of records or the U.S. gymnasts pull out some great wins against China, I prefer to hunt down some of the more obscure sports and see whats going on. Case in point…synchronized swimming. Always fascinating! I can’t believe how long they can stay under water for and, well, just everything about the sport baffles my mind. Anyway, for your enjoyment I have posted the Russian women’s gold medal performance which is freaking insane! Warning, its long but it gets so much better the longer it goes, so make some time to watch the whole thing.

*I can only post the link because Microsoft is retarded and doesn’t get how this whole Internet thing works, sorry.

Olympic Bus Tour

Well, since I’m at my blog anyway, I’ll just do two posts tonight and prove that its not all grown up boring-ness over here. On 08/08/08 in celebration of Leisa’s birthday and the opening games of the Olympics, we attended Leisa’s Olympic themed dive bar bus tour. The concept is simple, but wonderful. 1. Pick a theme that all must abide by. 2. Pay your $15 to be carted around on a school bus all night 3. Get drunk at Portland’s finest dive bars.

I managed to put together a lovely white tennis player ensemble, while Dylan stood in front of the closet saying “I have nothing to wear!” and finally adapted the theme to celebrate the winter Olympics and go as a snowboarder.

It was a successful event, the festivities began at 7 and ours ended by 11:30 -we are slightly out of our prime drinking shape. But Leisa needed to be carried off the bus around 11 as well, so all around good times, and successful birthday celebration for Leis!

House Update

Well, we have been in our new house for about six weeks and it has been great. Owning a home means you have a never ending list of things to do/buy/fix/update. But, one thing that meant a lot to me was replacing the old brass house numbers with something that reflected our style a little more. So after a minor fiasco with Restoration Hardware losing my order for the number 4, I finally received our new house numbers and immediately put them up. They’re almost straight and evenly spaced and everything! But its the little things that have been making this our house. I can’t say my shelf installation project went as smoothly, as there are about 5 holes in the wall where there should be two and a clock temporarily trying to block the mess until Dylan can go to Home Depot…nice little Saturday, I just don’t know if we’ll have time. (Yes, this is really my life now). But it’s worth it. Now, if anyone wants to come pull weeds let me know.

Anvil Media Field Trip

Today marked my third quarterly field trip that I have attended while at Anvil, and it was a blast. Thanks to Dream Life Power Sports we had access to two wave runners and two jet boats. Although the day started out a little cloudy (which gave the ladies time to catch up on all of the latest Hollywood gossip) it turned into a wonderfully warm and sunny day out on the Columbia River. I love all things water related, and probably could have spent all afternoon crashing around on the inner tubes until my arms fell off. But besides the day of sheer fun and amusement, I think the thing I took away most from our team event was the time to catch up on the lives of my coworkers/friends and that we all talk and hang out with each other like we had been friends forever, and not just the people you work with. That may have something to do with the fact that we spend 40+ hours a week together, but we do really have a great group of people with so much in common besides our job that it makes these events even better.

Which is also why I play softball, occasionally football and party with all the folks I work with as well. Look for pics from the upcoming Olympic themed bus tour coming up tomorrow with more Anvil peeps!

Spa la la, Portland Oregon

I decided to reward myself for good behavior this evening. I have been so busy with moving and fixing up the new house and planning a wedding that I decided I was in need of a little me time, and needed a pedicure. So with the help of some trusty websites, I discovered Spa La La not too far from my house and made an appointment.

The salon includes everything I would want if I was going to run my own spa, complimentary wine and champagne, lots of pink, chandeliers and girly things to buy. I had a wonderful pedicure with a glass of wine for the bargain price of $30! Thats like half a tank of gas! So I don’t even feel the slightest bit guilty about indulging in some girly fun.

I assure you I will be taking all my girlfriends out to the east side to have girls night out and pretty-up our toes at the same time.

Sure I can dance!

I was getting complaints about this not being up on my blog yet, but the lack of internet at the new house makes this more difficult than usual. So I present you with what members of the Knees family thought of when I told them I was watching “So you think you can dance”. Enjoy.
